Planning for Homecoming 2020

Homecoming, which will take place on Saturday, October 24, is a wonderful opportunity to return to campus.

Campus Decorating

Register your office or department to promote your Thundering Herd pride and show your Homecoming spirit! Entrants will be judged on their use of the Homecoming theme, use of school spirit, overall look and the impact of the decorations all week. Judging will be on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

Get Your Activities Promoted

Special Homecoming emails to all alumni will be sent the in the weeks leading up to Homecoming. Requests should be submitted through the online request form.

Information submitted through the request form can also be included within social media posts and the Homecoming website.

Marshall Family Tailgate

The Marshall Family Tailgate is Marshall University’s largest Homecoming tailgate. Featuring a large, covered tent, live music and tailgate games, the Marshall Family Tailgate takes place on Harless Field right off of 3rd Avenue. The highly visible area draws hundreds of alumni and fans to socialize and celebrate prior to the big game. The event also features games and activities, plus appearances by Marshall cheerleaders, marching band, coaches and more.

Homecoming Stampede 5K

The annual Homecoming 5K Stampede will feature a brand new route and more pomp than ever before! The new route will prominently feature the Marshall University – beginning and ending on campus! Annually, this event draws upwards of 200-300 runners celebrating Homecoming together on the day of the big game!

Homecoming Parade & Bonfire

Marshall’s annual Homecoming Parade through downtown Huntington. Beginning near Pullman Square and ending in front of the Memorial Student Center, this Thursday night parade has increased traffic through its new weeknight time and, new in 2019, a professional livestream of the parade – complete with hosts – will be broadcast to alums across the country.

Picnic on the Plaza

Picnic on the Plaza is a pep rally and fun-filled event drawing over 1,000 students, faculty and alumni. Marshall supporters pack the plaza for games, free food and drinks, live music by Bravo Live DJ, performances by the MU Marching Thunder, cheerleaders and university chorus, appearances by Thundering Herd coaches and players and other activities. Booths featuring Marshall’s colleges, student organizations and event sponsors line the plaza while activities take place throughout the area.
